Kpokploku Social and Cultural Club of America was forms some ten years ago with the goal of helping each other in time of need both; financially and emotionally. The objective remains the same even now.

The Creation Of Kpokploku

Creating Kpokploku! Aha dzen adzor was based on the humanitarian and social needs among few friends who understand that sudden occurrences are part of human life.  They as friends went to places together, cheered together and mourn together.  Their friendship literally grew to become a family.

One summer day in July 2001, at after a memorial service of late Madam Amokor, (one of the friends) Mr. Benjamin Akotwei Glover suggested that it will be a great idea to form an association which will stimulate the growth in contribution to help ourselves in times of emotional, and financial needs of unforeseen events; the rest of the “family” agreed upon the suggestion because each and everyone has, and faces the same needs as human beings.

The name Kpokploku was mentioned out of the blue by Mr. Glover. Kpokploku is a name of newly harvested corn which curbs hunger and bring joy and happiness to family; it symbolizes new formation and peace, signifies unity and development. The late Madam Grace Kuma Quacoopone responded with the phrase Aha dzen adzor (which means let there be peace).  I guess we can all admit that where there is hunger, there’s anger and frustration which do not bring peace.  With that said, the two phrases rhymed simultaneously. They were agreed upon by the rest of the members and so the association was formed.

Kpokploku like every association has gone through many faces but never broke down.  The strength of the Kpokploku family is enormous and it keeps growing stronger.

Mr. Benjamin Akotwei Glover of cause was elected the first chairman of the association and his vice was Mr. Adotey Addo (affectionately know as Ray) for two years.  Mr.  Glover voluntary resigned after two years due to his busy schedule of services to other members of the Ghanaian community whether or not they belong to the association.  He delightfully endorsed his vice Mr. Addo whom members agreed as person apt for the position.  Mr. Adotey Addo also handled the position with his vice chairman Mr. Christopher Quornoo.  After the end of their term, election was run and members voted Mr. Frank Nortei as their new chairman who selected his vice Madam Emilia Aryee (a.k.a. Auntie Deide).  Another election was run two years later which Mr. Joseph Allotey became the successor whose vice chairperson is Madam Gladys Ankrah.

Kpokploku also went through series of name changes.  What started as Kpokploku Association became Kpokploku Weiku Kpee and now Kpokploku Social & Cutural Club of America.  The club has worked to maintain high standard and continues to do better.

Also because their aim is to ensure the situation (insecurity) they witnessed in regards to the funeral they attended never occurred again, they crafted the motto; "Aha Dzen Adzor" which means "Let there be Peace".

The club has developed to become a strong voice among the Ghanaian community in the Bronx of The United States of America and it continues to grow.

You will enjoy it if you become a member. You are invited to join.
